Guide To Maintenance & Care Of Your ORIENTAL AND PERSIAN RUGS

Oriental and Persian rugs are generally made of wool and other natural fibers such as silk and cotton and are easily maintained.The most durable and practical type are the wool rugs. Wool rugs out-last and out-perform rugs made of other materials because wool is considerably more resilient than other fibers, cleans better and tends to stay clean much longer than silk and cotton fibers.

When it comes to cleaning and care of your rugs at home, following steps and procedures could be quite useful;

VACUUMING: Area rugs of all kind should be vaucuumed in their entirety on a regular bases to remove dirt and dust and ensure protection of your rugs from Moth Damage. Do not vacuum the fringe area with the rotating brush in your vaccum cleaner and use the suction nozzle attachment to prevent pulling and damaging of fringes and corners of the rug If you have antique rugs with little or no pile on them, never use a vacuum cleaner with a rotating brush.

PADDING: A quality rug pad that is appropriate for the type of floor used, helps protect your rug from sliding and wrinkling and helps maintain the shape of the rug and preserve the overall condition of the rug.

ROTATION: To insure even waer, your rug should be rotated once a year or every other year. This helps even wear caused by the traffic path in the room and also helps distribute any possible fading of the rug uniformely throughout the rug.

Rug Storage, How to prepare and store rugs:

When an area rug is to be stored for more than a few months it should be cleaned, completely dry and wrapped in protective plastic or a tough synthetic paper like “6mm building paper and sealed with tape. Don’t use newspaper or common brown wrapping paper. These materials are not chemically stable (they are usually quite acidic), and do not provide the protection from insects or moisture the stored rug needs. Think twice about using moth balls or flakes–these materials have little repellent effect, and the odor they impart to the rug can be difficult to remove. Cedar scent is useless in moth control. Store the rug in a clean, dry place out of the reach of squirrels or other rodents.

We provide you with complete cleaning , repair and wrapping your area rugs for short or long term storage. We also wrap and ship various size area rugs to destinations world wide.
